About this role
Marc Ellis is hiring a Big Data Engineering Lead on a 12-month contract to design and manage enterprise-scale data solutions for a leading banking organization in India, combining hands-on Hadoop/Spark engineering with team leadership.
Responsibilities
- Lead design and delivery of backend and distributed data systems across the Hadoop ecosystem
- Develop, optimize and tune Java, MapReduce, Hive and Spark jobs for high-volume workloads
- Design and build scalable batch and real-time pipelines using Spark Streaming and Apache Storm
- Manage data engineering teams and project prioritization
- Deliver high-quality dashboards in line with industry standards
- Review source data for accuracy, integrity and completeness before processing
Requirements
- 8-10 years of experience in Big Data Engineering or distributed backend systems
- Extensive hands-on experience with the Hadoop ecosystem (MapReduce, HDFS, Pig, Hive, HBase, Flume, Sqoop)
- Strong Java development experience plus Python or Scala
- SQL performance tuning and relational/NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, Cassandra, HBase)
- Proven leadership in data engineering or BI teams while staying hands-on
- Strong communication skills for technical and non-technical stakeholders
